A VALUEABLE ADDITION TO THE IMAGE EVALUATION PROCESS:
sentin EXPLORER
Despite the adverse circumstances, the year 2020 was a successful one for sentin. In this annual review, you will find our most important milestones from last year, as well as our plans and projects for 2021.
Successful collaborations, e.g., with Evonik
sentin was part of Non-Destructive Evaluation of Aerospace Materials and Structures 2020, a virtual conference on June 3rd, 2020. Our CEO Christian Els presented our software application, the sentin EXPLORER, and its applications with a talk titled “NDT: Weld ADR” (automatic defect recognition). In this talk Christian showcased why AI is such a valuable addition to the image evaluation processes for welds. In the third quarter of 2020, sentin successfully took part in Datahub Ruhr’s open call, and had the unique opportunity to develop image-based AI together with Evonik in the field of Animal Nutrition. The project aimed to monitor the behaviour and well-being of farm animals, such as detecting diseases reliably and at an early stage.
sentin was selected as one of the best Up2B Accelerator Start-ups founded between 2017 and 2020.
EU project WeldGalaxy: 100,000 Euros in funding
We answered the Weld Galaxy Open Innovation Call and received 100,000 € in EU funding. In addition to this program, sentin can look forward to closing a cooperation with industry experts and the TWI (The Welding Institute) for weld seam evaluation with the help of our AI. As part of this project, the sentin EXPLORER received new features with a planned launch in Q2 of 2021. These new features include the ability to work in a cloud environment and the automatic evaluation of images according to ISO standards.
Two research projects with six-figure funding
Major projects and milestones are already in the pipeline for the new year, says Christian Els: “As part of two further research projects that are starting this year with a duration of three and four years respectively, we will research technologies that improve our software and our services, to further improve our ability adapt to the needs of our customers.” One of the projects, for example, deals with the automatic surface inspection of plastic injection moulded parts.
2021 Goal: Brand strengthening and company growth.
Close cooperation with corporate partners and universities will also be expanded in the future. With the sentin EXPLORER’s continued positive feedback from the German speaking region and quickly increasing international interest, the internationalization of sentin is quickly materializing. In addition to the applications NDT & Incognito (anonymization), further product features are in the pipeline to simplify and improve scalability in our industry. Finally, sentin is planning general company growth through the hiring of new employees this year. The focus is also on the use of external financing in Q3 to open new industries, acquire datasets for model training and to promote internationalization.
These developments should strengthen sentin‘s brand in our industry and establishing ourselves as the standard solution for image evaluation. Of course, we will continue to keep an eye on the effects of the corona pandemic, as we to continue to work with our partners and market our software in a customer-oriented and understandable manner.
